Powder coating is a finishing method to apply a decorative and protecting layer on metal. The powder used in this process is a mix of fine pigment parts and resin, and is sprayed onto the surface. This coating is statically loaded which causes it to attach to the surface, which is also statically loaded. After this it is heated so that a smooth protection layer is formed. Besides protection the powder coating also gives the material a neater look.

Another way of powder coating is to melt the color onto the material. This is done by heating the material and putting it in a tank, bath or barrel that has an air-permeable bottom. By spinning the tank the air mixes with the powder that the tank contains. Because of the difference in heat between the hot material and the relatively cold powder, the powder is melted onto the material.
This process can be executed electrolytic as well so that different sorts of powder can be used. During this process the powder is statically loaded which causes the powder to stick to the material. After this it is put into the oven which will melt the powder into the material.

Flame spraying is a way of powder coating that uses a flame to melt metal parts or color powder onto the material, creating a protecting layer.
