Plywood is a board that consists out of several thin wooden sheets. These sheets are also called plies, from which the term �plywood� is derived. The plies are glued together, the veins are placed in different angles, this makes the plywood extremely strong.
Plywood consists out of an even number of sheets, the symmetry ensures that the board remains in the original shape. The sheets are pressed together under heat using a strong type of glue, the different sheets make plywood a strong composite material.
The two exterior sheets of the board are called the face and back, the face side stays uncovered. The interior is also known as the core, the inner layers are also called �crossbands�.
